Junior Developer / Consultant with DevOps skills

Start date:  ASAP

Salary: Salary to £42,000 pa depending on experience plus benefits – a competitive bonus based on company and individual performance is also offered

Type: Permanent, full-time

Hours: 37.5 per week

Location: Hybrid. You can work from your home, though you must be able to travel to our Farringdon, Central London office or client sites (mostly London) as required. This is likely to be once per week at the least.

About the role

As a Consultant with Capacitas, you will be quickly utilised on client engagements, working as part of a project team with experienced and talented colleagues. You will most often be in a client serving role and the range of projects you work on will vary according to current demand and your professional development path.

Typical projects include:

  • Automating through use of DevOps capability
  • Conducting client DevOps maturity assessments
  • Looking for ways to reduce client money spent on IT & DevOps infrastructure
  • Creating and updating in-house toolsets using a variety of programming language
  • Applying DevOps expertise to enable internal and external clients
  • Automation of test packs for both internal and external products and teams

A day in the life of a Capacitas Consultant includes:

  • Working as part of a team and independently to carry out technical work for project delivery and, depending on experience, leading small teams on complex projects
  • Working as part of a team and independently to carry out technical work for client project delivery
  • Exercising your strong technical knowledge and continuously deepening your technical skills. Depending on experience, you are able to unblock technical issues for others, train a team and learn new tools as required
  • Participating in and, dependent on experience, leading daily stand-up meetings with your project team
  • Managing simple projects to time and budget, enabling project profitability, directly interacting with clients and, dependent on experience managing, planning and executing delivery of complex projects
  • Leading simple projects, engaging and motivating others to deliver and, dependent on experience, creating and executing thorough plans including budgeting, resourcing and risk management, taking into account dependencies and assumptions
  • Presenting to various audiences, catering to different backgrounds and levels of technical knowledge in audience
  • Building an internal and external network, proactively reaching out to engage colleagues and client contacts and, depending on experience, establishing, maintaining and deepening relationships with senior stakeholders, exploring true client needs and where Capacitas can add value, strategically growing your professional network
  • Identifying business opportunities for Capacitas within client account and more broadly where possible and, depending on experience, applying strong understanding of our business and client needs to propose approaches to deliver value for clients, acting as a solution architect
  • Serving as a project point of contact for internal and external client contacts
  • Serving as an internal go-to person in an area of technical expertise, depending on experience drawing on senior support as appropriate
  • Supporting our marketing strategy by creating, following, liking and reposting Capacitas content and, depending on experience, create marketing content for insights, blogs and sales collateral
  • Identifying opportunities to innovate and improve efficiency or quality of our internal processes
  • Using your technical capability to create IP to augment our existing processes

About the applicant - to succeed in this role, it is important you:

1) Have the following technical knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Have a computer science background - 2.1 degree (or equivalent), or an advanced degree in one of the following areas: Computing, Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics
  • Have a background in working with DevOps or Development teams
  • Have interest in and knowledge of the cloud and DevOps, especially AWS and Azure environments and supporting containerisation, though not necessarily experience in working with these
  • Have interest and knowledge in CI/CD processes and pipeline configuration using tools such as Jenkins
  • Have interest and knowledge in cloud infrastructure setup using tools such as Cloud Formation and Terraform
  • Have knowledge in VCS tools for storing and committing source code, such as GitHub or Azure DevOps
  • Have working practice on working with Development teams
  • Have knowledge and working practice with Development projects, using front-end and back-end languages, such as Angular, Python or C#
  • Automating cloud infrastructure setup using tools such as Cloud Formation and Terraform
  • Monitoring, including basic and complex metric understanding, and familiarity with monitoring agents
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure
  • At least intermediate excel skills for data analysis, with willingness to learn advanced excel skills
  • At least intermediate PowerPoint and Word skills
